The Eductation Committee attended the 2010 Scout fair at Reliant Arena and had many parents and scouts asking questions and taking in what we had to offer.  We will build off of this experience and relationships to expand what architects do for the community in the public's eye.  Looking forward to more positive work with the Boy Scouts in the future.

Just a thought for the Education Committee to work on...

Thought was for the education committee to post all new school building opening in the local area.  Obviously this idea needs to be refined.  Let's brain storm it's validity a our next meeting.

The Education Committee is currently working with the Boy Scouts of America to help development of today's youth.  More details on events with the AIA and the Boy Scouts.

2009 Education Committee Meeting
November 18, 2009


I.   New Business
A.   Activities Update:
1.   Activity Book Progress:
a)   Work on content and format is in progress.
b)   A place setting at “Drop.io” was set up for coordination of “Activity book”.  Timothy Rose created a process describing how to access and use the site.  (see attached, also posted on the Forum)
c)   Data gathering will be completed by Dec. 16th
2.   Adventures in Architecture 2010 discussion (i.e. program, partners (NOMA) etc.):  Jan 2010 we will begin the re-structure of the program.
a)   Make a list of volunteers
b)   LaTonya Horhn and Timothy Rose are in the process of negotiating with NOMA to help in obtaining more volunteers.
c)   Create a school/student selection process
d)   Layout the program based upon the previous year’s program to build and improve upon.
3.   Membership recruitment. Mat Wolff will post our monthly meetings on the AIA Friday List.  To note this year we have lost some members, however we have added a couple of new names. Phillip Bologna, Brinn Sustala, and Mat Wolff.
4.   Mat Wolff will be our new AIA liaison.

B.   Activities on Hold:

C.   New Activities: AIA will no longer be providing lunch.  A lunch program will be in place for those who want to order lunch through the AIA at each person’s own expense.  Or you can brown bag it.  A suggestion was made that we could get sponsors.  Additionally parking will still be provided for AIA members and committee members.

II.   Old Business / Completed Business
A.   Mission Statement Development (2008) – Completed
B.   Forum (Communication Web Page (committee, development, content) – Completed
C.   Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) presentation– Completed

III.   Other Topics
A.   A suggestion was made to have the December meeting at the end of the day and to have a wine mixer meeting.  This meeting will be a working session for the activity book and a year close out review.

Access to “drop.io”:  Drop.io  is a 3rd party FTP site to store information.  Craig set this up for us to coordinate the Activity Book task.

Step 1) http://drop.io/aiaeducation
Step 2) you will be given three options when you go to this page.  Select the third option “continue in drop.io with IE6” (see attached)
Step 4) password:  education
Step 3) You will see the “Building List”  (see attached “building list.pdf”) and dialog box will appear.
Step 4) Select “edit”.  This will a text editor and you can make any changes there.
Step 5) Save your changes and exit.
